Since joining Courrèges as its creative director in 2020, Nicolas Di Felice has had a knack for creating equally calm yet enticing silhouettes – inviting the eyes of a wide audience. But what has remained particularly exciting about the designer’s work is his construction of minimally sexy garments. Di Felice’s latest for the Fall/Winter 2023 season walks the same line as he continuously finds the magical sexiness in simplicity.
Interestingly enough, the brand’s latest collection serves as a slight continuation of a couple previous seasons. Nodding to the Resort 2023 and Spring/Summer 2023 menswear collections, Di Felice imparts a similar attention of sharp lines and refined silhouettes that lend themselves to the body’s natural curvature. Nothing feels forced, but rather a dialogue between what everyday wear looks like and how matters of confidence and desire influence our dressing. Alongside this structure, Di Felice takes a look at culture’s obsession with phones and the shapes formed as humans bend over to interact with them.
Fit for the dinner table or a night out in the streets, the collection takes form in slim suiting, tailored outerwear, minimal side slit skirts, paneled slit dresses, side button pants and streamlined one-piece garments. Outerwear pieces come in overcoats with sleeve openings, trench coats and leather jackets with subtle moto-like constructions. But other highlights of the collection include slim mixed-construction dresses and one-piece garments with thigh openings and flared bottoms (a design signature for Di Felice). Highlighting the minimal constructions are classic shades of black, slate gray, white and light gray with inserts of burgundy and dusty pink.
