The Fabelmans Wins Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama

Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical epic “The Fabelmans” has officially taken home the top prize at the 80th Golden Globes. The award was presented by Quentin Tarantino.

“The Fabelmans” won Best Motion Picture – Drama during the live awards ceremony January 10. The fellow nominees included “TÁR,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and “Elvis.”

Earlier in the evening, Steven Spielberg also won Best Director for the film.

The 2023 Golden Globes marked the return of the Hollywood Foreign Press awards ceremony being broadcast on NBC. The network previously scrapped the telecast in 2022 with the mandate that the HFPA make reforms to its membership committee; the 2023 ceremony was aired as part of a one-year agreement with NBC after the HFPA welcomed 103 new voters in the past year, more than doubling its initial membership.

Today, the HFPA voting committee represents an international basis, with 52 percent of members being women and 51.5 percent being racially and ethnically diverse. Emmy-winning comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted the 2023 Golden Globes, which aired live on NBC and Peacock.

Earlier this evening, “Banshees of Inisherin” won Best Motion Picture – Comedy out of nominees “Babylon,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” and “Triangle of Sadness.”
