Sandi Toksvig, 64, is now back home in the UK in time for Christmas following a health scare during her comedy tour in Australia. The former Great British Bake Off host was rushed to hospital after she became seriously unwell with pneumonia.

Due to the sickness, the BBC’s QI presenter was forced to cancel her remaining tour dates, which included some shows in New Zealand.

Sandi took to Twitter today to give her worried fans an update on her health now that she is back in the UK.

She uploaded a picture of herself sitting on a chair, wrapped up warm in a scarf and with her dog on her lap.

Sandi wrote: “Thanks to my beloved wife, I’m back home in time for Christmas. Best present ever!”

Delighted fans rushed to the tweet’s replies to express their relief over the update.

CllrJonSHarvey said: “I don’t know you Sandi and you don’t know me – but I am stupidly happy that you are well and back in Blighty.”

BobPinder added: “Hope you’re feeling much better, you had us very worried, wishing you a lovely Christmas from Dennis and Izzy in Western Upside Down Land xx”

Gwyn1033 penned: “Nice to have a bit of good news Sandi.

“Wishing you both all the best for Christmas. Charlie sends pug hugs.”

Maryannepitman stated: “So very happy for you both and speedy recovery.”

Fans of the TV star were left concerned earlier this month after Sandi’s team announced that the “main priority” was getting her home to the UK following her illness.

They penned: “Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour.

“She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel & perform.

“Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough – Team Toksvig”.

Sandi is battling bronchopneumonia, which is a type of pneumonia that affects the bronchi in the lungs.

The health issue is most often caused by a bacterial infection, but can also be sparked from viral and fungal infections.

Prior to her hospitalisation, Sandi had shared her excitement for her tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The comedian said: “I am thrilled to finally come down to Australia and New Zealand to perform my new show for my fans down under.

“It has been a perilous time for live performance, but I am thrilled to be back on the boards.

“And leaving our winter for an Australian summer is a bonus, I can’t wait.”
