You helped give me the head space to turn my life around | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER ruining my career by making a stupid financial error while stressed, my life spiralled downwards.

I wrote to you, Deidre, because I was depressed. I couldn’t secure another job, and my wife and I were forced to sell our home and downsize.

I’m 44 and was humiliated to find myself dependent on the salary of my wife, who is 42.

I had applied for more than 100 jobs at less than half my previous salary, but I didn’t get shortlisted for a single one.

I felt a failure to my family and to society. I was suicidal, certain everyone would be better off without me.

You reminded me how much my wife and 12-year-old son need me, and urged me to put my job hunt aside while getting help with my mental health.

You advised me to contact CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (thecalmzone.net, 0800 58 58 58) and sent me your Depression and Counselling support packs.

You were right. Getting professional help gave me the headspace to turn things around. I have finally been offered a good job. Thank you!
