Man Utd eye transfer deal for Spain forward Nico Williams but must fight Liverpool for Athletic Bilbao's World Cup star | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED are interested in signing Nico Williams, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag is on the search for a forward with Cristiano Ronaldo on the brink of leaving the club.

United wanted to upgrade their attack last summer and considered a move for PSV forward Cody Gakpo.

But now United have their eye on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, according to Fichajes.

The Red Devils are likely to wait until next summer to make an approach with the Basque side unlikely to sell in January.

United could face competition for Williams' signature if he decides he wants to leave.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are said to be monitoring the 20-year-old's situation and could make a bid.

Williams has impressed in his young career and his form for Bilbao was recognised with a call-up to Spain's World Cup squad.

Liverpool will reportedly send scouts to watch him in action in Qatar and if he performs well he could attract attention from several clubs.

Bilbao are believed to value Williams at around £35million, but that fee could rise if he announces himself on the world stage.
