Luca Bish said relationship with Gemma was getting ‘better’ just one day before split

Luca Bish awkwardly claimed his and Gemma Owen's relationship was getting "better and better" this week – just a day before the Love Island couple announced their split on Wednesday night.

The duo met during this summer's edition of Love Island, making it all the way to the grand final where they finished in second spot behind winners Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti.

This week, it was sadly announced that they have decided to part ways and following the split, Luca's interview from Tuesday night has surfaced.

Speaking at the TV Choice Awards – which he tellingly attended solo – the fishmonger spoke positively about his relationship on the red carpet.


He told Metro: "It’s going better and better and better, honestly.

"In the villa towards the end everyone could see, you’re just ready to get out, and that timing and when we got out was the best thing that happened to us. So yeah, loving life."

Announcing the break-up, Gemma write on Instagram: "To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship.

"It wasn't an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now.

"Many of you have been on this journey with us from the beginning, and I wanted to thank you for your continued support as we start our new chapters."

Luca, who was gushing over his ex's swimsuit photo not even two weeks ago, shared his own statement.

It read: "Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my breakup.

"We have been on such a journey together and have made some amazing memories which I will treasure. We will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her."

Gemma and Luca were the first of this year's Love Island finalists to split. Winners Davide and Ekin-Su remain together, as do Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack, and Andrew Le Page and Tasha Ghouri.
