MAFS UK’s Paul C Brunson gives advice on how to navigate ‘cuffing season’
Married At First Sight UK 's Paul C Brunson has shared his advice on how to navigate "cuffing season", as well as other relationship and love dilemmas.
Paul, who also stars as an advisor on Celebs Go Dating, has discussed a collection of problems singletons or those in relationships may encounter – including the pressure to get a partner at Christmas, working from home with your loved one and how wedding season can feel overwhelming.
Issuing advice about "cuffing season", which is where singletons seek a short-term relationship to pass the colder months of the years and usually lasts until just after Valentine's Day, Paul admitted he's never understood the concept.
Speaking exclusively to OK!, he said: "Right, so we've all heard the famous saying 'hot girl summer' where being single is all fun and games, but then it gets to what's called 'cuffing' season and single people begin looking for short-term flings or relationships to pass the time in the colder months of the year.
"Personally, I've never really understood the concept, you should only get in a relationship if it feels right, not just for the sake of company in the colder months. Temporary relationships don't exactly scream romantic, have fun with loved ones because the right person will come along when you least expect it.
"Having gaps between relationships and using the time to focus on yourself and learning to know how to be alone is really healthy for yourself. Learning to not depend on anyone for your happiness is crucial in the next relationship you have."
Paul was also on hand to issue advice for those struggling with wedding season whether that be due to finding it "frustrating" or "lonely".
The dating expert said: "Some single people absolutely love being by themselves, but other singles feel like it's more of a curse. After years of wedding cancellations, this year saw wedding after wedding happening.
"So understandably, for some single people who longingly desire a relationship, loved ones getting married can feel lonely and frustrating. But you need to remember:
Elsewhere, Paul was also able to share his expert advice on how to navigate working from home with your partner.
The dating expert said: "No matter who, you're always going to clash with someone you're spending a prolonged period of time with.
"We saw an influx of couples breaking up after lockdown due to this issue. It's not healthy to spend every waking hour with a friend, let alone a significant other. Make sure you're seeing friends and family and taking yourself on solo outings.
"But alongside this, always make sure you are doing different things with your partner like going on walks, going out for dinner and making plans – if everything you do is in the house you will go stir crazy. They will also feel like additional effort is being made."
Paul is working with Trojan Condoms as their relationship expert. Trojan is available to purchase from Boots, Asda and Amazon.
