Matt Chapman tips: I simply can't resist this huge 10-1 shot in the big race on day one of Glorious Goodwood | The Sun

THE original 'cracker' revealed that he gambled too much in the BBC drama released in 1993 – but it might just be worth having a few quid each way on Coltrane to cause an upset in the feature race on day one of Glorious Goodwood.

The Group 1 Goodwood Cup promises to be a corker, with much interest surrounding the return of Stradivarius, now ditched of regular partner Frankie Dettori but still with an Italian in the shape of Andrea Atzeni, who is unbeaten on the old boy.

Stradivarius is not as good as he once was, but only a banana would rule him out.

Kyprios is the new kid on the block, having landed the Ascot Gold Cup for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.

However, that race was run at an absolute crawl, and he still has plenty to prove as a stayer.

With Trueshan unlikely to run, I'll be having a few quid each way on COLTRANE.

He has plenty to find on official ratings but is improving for Andrew Balding, doing this column a right turn at big odds at Royal Ascot.

Since then he's been to Sandown, and absolutely hacked up.

He's uncomplicated and can be ridden anyway, which gives him serious each way claims against many rivals with questions to answer.

It could be (another) huge win for Rob Hornby.

ITV coverage is boosted this year with no less than six races a day from Goodwood on the terrestrial channel.

Coverage gets under way with a handicap over 1m2f.

BRILLIANT LIGHT has strong each way claims for Saeed bin Suroor and Danny Tudhope.

The Godolphin runner has big performances at York and Royal Ascot in his last two runs and this is probably his ideal trip.

Group 2 company for the Vintage Stakes for juveniles over 7f.

Hard to know what to make of Holloway Boy after his win at Royal Ascot, but my gut feeling is to take him on.

I'll do so with another Godolphin runner, in the Charlie Appleby trained MYSTERIOUS NIGHT.

He ran against a good horse in Persian Force at Newmarket last time but that crucially was over 6f.

He never really got into it, and the effort very much suggested this step up and trip could make all the difference.

Another Group 2 in the Lennox over 7f. LUSAIL is an underestimated horse, and really does deserve to win a race like this.

Trained by Richard Hannon, and ridden by Pat Dobbs, Lusail ran a cracker in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Then he went to France for the Prix Jean Prat and was once agaim terrific albeit in defeat behind Tenebrism.

In the handicap over 5f I'll have a few quid each way on EQUALITY who ran a huge race at Epsom two runs ago before finishing down the field for me at Royal Ascot.

That run, though, only tells half the story as he actually performed really well and was just drawn on the wrong side of the track.

Finally a maiden ends the coverage for two-year-olds over 6f.

It's very easy to side with MISCHIEF MAGIC in this big field.

The Charlie Appleby-trained runner has useful course experience at Goodwood after a promising debut at the track.

Blimey, lots to get your head around… good luck!
