The Game took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday to thank JAY-Z for clearing seven samples for his upcoming album, Drillmatic, produced by Hit-Boy.
The Compton rapper shared his gratitude and disclosed that he is still waiting on clearances for three more samples before the album can be released. “S/O to S. Dot for clearing all 7 samples on #Drillmatic,” he wrote. “3 more sample clearances & the AOTY belongs to me & hit-boy.”
Drillmatic was originally scheduled to release on June 17, but it was pushed back to July 1 after the rapper called out Rolling Stone for not including his 2005 studio album The Documentary on its list of the “200 Greatest Rap Albums of All Time.” The album was then delayed again and does not have a fixed release date at this time.
Last month, The Game dropped off the lead single from the project, dubbed “Violence,” prepping fans for what to expect from the record. “Heard y’all want REAL RAP again,” Game wrote on Instagram alongside its release. “We got you. Game x Hit-Boy woke up & chose ‘VIOLENCE’ today !!!!!!”
In a now-deleted Instagram post from May, The Game claimed that Drillmatic will become the “best album” of this year. “The energy feels like I just signed my deal,” he wrote. “You’ve never heard me rap like this, I promise you.”
Elsewhere in music, Travis Scott’s first major performance since Astroworld sold out in under two hours.
