TESCO's website and app has gone down as hundreds of customers are unable to complete their shopping.

Over 500 complaints have been logged so far on outage detection site Downdetector.

The supermarket giant has said it's aware of some problems with the website currently, apologising to shoppers for the inconvenience.

They've been met with blocked pages and error messages trying to log on to Tesco's online pages.

But it's meant customers can't complete their grocery orders at the beginning of the week.

Angry, they shared their frustrations on social media.

On Twitter one said: "Tesco my app continues to crash and not update my basket or allow me to checkout over and over again! What’s going on?"

Another said: "Tesco I don't think your app or website is working."

"I'm having a problem with the shopping site," said another. "I can't seem to add anything to my list."

A fourth said: "Now it's not the first time I've been forced to shop elsewhere because I can't edit my order."

In response, Tesco explained to users of the online platform that it was, "unfortunately", experiencing some problems with the website and app.

The Sun has approached the retailer for comment.

The issues appear to have started at around lunchtime today, as over 100 reports were logged with Downdetector by 12.30pm.

They've only risen since then, as more than 500 users are denied access to resources on the site.

A whopping 72% of those complained of website issues, while 27% can't use the supermarket's app.

It doesn't seem like customers have been met with any issues logging into their accounts.

But frustrations mount as Tesco shoppers can't amend their baskets or tot up their spends as they browse the site.

One shopper shared how prices had gone offline on their account, with each item in their basket coming up with an error code instead of a figure.

It wouldn't be the first time the grocer has run into problems.

Just last month, the Tesco website went down leaving hundreds of customers unable to do their online food shop.

Similar numbers were seen as around 500 users filed complaints.

Shoppers couldn't book deliveries or amend existing orders when the outage happened.

But the supermarket's website and app also went down in February, leaving customers' shopping in limbo once again.

That followed on from a similar outage the month before in January.

And shoppers had also reported problems accessing the supermarket's website after a suspected cyber attack in October last year.

How to check if the Tesco app and website are working

The best way to see if there are issues with the Tesco website or app is to check directly.

The supermarket app showed an error message today to customers saying, "Sorry, something went wrong" making it clear that the problems are widespread.

You can also see whether other customers have reported issues on Downdetector.

And shoppers can check the supermarket's social media pages for updates too.

Can you claim compensation for outages?

There's no fixed compensation scheme for supermarket website outages like there is for other industries such as telecoms.

But if being unable to access your account has left you out of pocket for any reason, it's worth contacting Tesco.
