Coronation Street fans blast Fiz Stape for 'shameful' comment about Rosie's kidnapping

CORONATION Street regulars have turned their back on Fiz Stape for "enabling" violent ex John Stape and branding his victim a "strumpet."

Fans of the ITV soap were incensed when the mum took daughter Hope aside to tell all about her father.

Played by actor Graeme Hawley from 1998 until 2011, John went from a teacher who had an affair with pupil Rosie Webster to one of Corrie's notorious serial killers.

Fiz was joined by ex Tyrone to tackle the tough conversation, attempting to reassure the youngster that John, who has since died, had still loved her during his lifetime.

Yet after Jennie McAlpine's character attempted to "blame" Rosie for getting kidnapped, fans started to become angry.

One took to Twitter to rage: "Not Fiz STILL enabling John even after everything he did long after his death. #Corrie."

Another posted: "Fiz blaming Rosie for getting kidnapped because she was a strumpet. Not cool. #Corrie," as a third continued: "'He only kidnapped Rosie cos his affair with her ended his career' OMG Fiz is genuinely tryna defend Stape while desperately pining all the blame on Rosie now really? #Corrie."

One then mused: "Fiz of all people should know that you can’t possibly condense the history of an icon such as John Stape into a single conversation. #Corrie."

Another posted: "For flipping sake Fiz you can't lie to Hope about her serial killer dad using poor Rosie as a scapegoat for his crimes! Way to teach your daughter about the value of women! #Corrie."

When John's criminal antics were at their height, he concealed Colin Fishwick's body after he died in front of him and then murdered Charlotte Hoyle when she tried to blackmail him about it.

John then accidentally smothered Colin's mother to death as he confessed the truth.

Graeme was nominated for Villain of the Year in 2009 at the Soap Awards for his work on Corrie.

He was again nominated for the same award in 2011 after his murderous storyline came to a dramatic end.

John was killed off in 2011 after being fatally injured in a car crash.

Yet Fiz's past has come to haunt her in recent episodes of the soap.

Since John's passing, she has built her life back up, slowly forgetting his villainous deeds as time went by.

In doing so, the Corrie stalwart has preferred to sweep her past under the rug, not even mentioning it to her partner Phill Whittaker (Jamie Kenna).

Yet as Fiz meets up with Phill and his friends, Graham and Angela, she is caught out.

Graham recognises her from her trial and explains that he was the solicitor for the prosecution.

With the truth slowly unravelling, Fiz confided in Tyrone how she’s never told Phill about her crazy ex-husband in case he ran a mile.
