Arsenal to explore Raheem Sterling transfer this summer as Man City winger goes into final year of contract

ARSENAL are “set to explore” the possibility of signing Raheem Sterling this summer.

The popular England forward, 27, is about to enter the final year of his contract at Manchester City.

The star has put talks over an extension on hold in order to concentrate on trying to help his side retain the Premier League title.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is set to lose both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in June when they become free agents.

But he enjoyed a good working relationship with Sterling during his time working at City under Pep Guardiola.

And now The Telegraph state that he is eyeing a swoop to bring the attacker to the Emirates.

As his side closes in on Champions League qualification, Arteta is set to be backed in the transfer market during the summer window.

This latest report states that he would be “willing to make Sterling the focal point of the Gunners' attack” next term.

However, they would certainly face a fight for Sterling’s signature should he become available.

There has been no suggestion that the star, who scored twice in yesterday’s 5-0 win over Newcastle, wants to leave the Etihad.

He has won the title three times since his arrival from Liverpool back in 2015.

But City are reluctant to allow any of their players the opportunity to run down their contracts.

And that means that they will want Sterling’s future resolved as soon as possible once this campaign closes.

Sterling’s double against the Magpies took his tally to 16 for the season.
