In November 2021, the hearts of Shamila shippers everywhere broke when Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello called it quits after dating for more than two years. Since then, the two have vowed to stay friends and have commented here and there on the reason for the breakup, citing hectic work schedules and shifting priorities.
Neither artist has been linked romantically to anyone following their split, but during an appearance on the “Carpool Karaoke” segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Camila — who was hooked up to a *literal* lie detector test at this point — was asked whether or not she’s exchanged any flirty DMs.
“I don’t know why I said yes to this,” the “Bam Bam” singer laughed in response.
But host James Corden was not giving up. “Since becoming single, have you slid romantically into any DMs?,” he pressed.
“It’s not as simple as a yes or no,” Camila divulged after a long pause. “I’ll say… OK, I’ll say no. I’ll say no on a technicality.”
The polygraph examiner in the backseat presented a thumbs-down and announced that that was a lie, which prompted James to question if any verified accounts have slid into Camila’s DMs. To that, the singer said yes (which the lie detector confirmed was true), but she wouldn’t name names.
“Oh f**k off,” she laughed.
During the interview, Camila also confessed that she initially auditioned for The X Factor because she was convinced that she was going to meet and fall in love with Harry Styles (I mean, same). “I was 15, I was a huge One Direction fan, and I was like The Voice… X Factor,” she explained. “And I was like, well, One Direction will be at X Factor, I don’t know if they’ll be at The Voice, so let me audition for X Factor.”
Camila also touched on Fifth Harmony, and whether or not she misses anything about being in a band. “Honestly, no,” she said. “But there’s honestly no hard feelings for me about it because we were so young. I’m such a different person than that time. But there were some really fun times there, too.”
“You know what, I do miss being in a band in the sense that when I am doing promo or whatever, I want to have other people next to me to banter off of,” she continued. “But I don’t miss splitting creative decisions five ways.”
Don’t mind me, I’ll just be here consumed with questions of who’s slid into Camila’s DMs.
