Inside Julia Fox's dark past of heroin addiction & childhood homelessness far from Kim Kardashian's Hollywood upbringing

JULIA Fox has a dark past from her heroin addiction to childhood homelessness, which is far from Kim Kardashian’s Hollywood upbringing.

The 31-year-old actress is currently dating Kim’s ex-husband Kanye West.

Born in Milan, Italy, Julia spent her early years living with her grandfather until she moved to New York City with her father.

Throughout her teen years, the Uncut Gems actress worked service jobs while attending high school.

Back in January 2020, Julia revealed she suffered a near-fatal overdose when she was 17.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: "It's kind of a miracle that I'm okay because a lot of the people I grew up with aren't doing so well.

"They're still on drugs or in jail. A lot of them died."

A New Yorker profile from July revealed that the actress is now sober following her past addiction struggles with heroin and pills.

The star admitted her childhood wasn't always easy and she was even homeless for a period of time.

She previously spoke to High Snob Society about what it was like being raised by a single father in New York City, sharing: "He's out of his mind. I pretty much grew up with him.

"He still lives here, but he's not really around. He's like a mad scientist recluse. He builds 3D printers for fun."

Noting that she mostly grew up in Uptown Manhattan, Julia continued: "We moved around a lot. It was kind of unstable. We were homeless at one point.

"I actually have lived in almost every single neighborhood — Harlem, Chelsea, everywhere.

"I moved downtown when I was 17 and I haven't left."

She further elaborated on her unstable living situation in a profile for The New Yorker, stating: “We stayed at whatever apartment my dad was renovating at the time. We were, like, homeless."

Julia continued: “I’d go live at friends’ houses—it was always some sort of dysfunctional family with a single mom, and I’d find my way in, and my dad didn’t care.”

Julia previously revealed how her addiction played into her "first love" in a 2018 Instagram post.

Alongside photos of Julia and a past boyfriend smoking, she wrote: "He was my first love.

"I was 14 when we met at a drug dealers house a few blocks away from where I grew up.

"We took ecstasy the first night, hooked up, and a few minutes later he was on the phone with his mom telling her he had met the love of his life."

She continued: "I was a runaway and he was all I had. Our bond was so raw and so passionate and so beautifully dysfunctional.

"I was still learning what Love was- learning who I was. I never knew healthy love and wasn’t even aware that I was in a fucked up situation. But none of that matters now."

The emotional post concluded: "I found a letter he wrote me from prison yesterday and it read: 'you’re 16 now and I can’t wait to see what a beautiful woman you will become.'

"And it hit me that I am that woman now and I’ve come SO far from that lost little girl.

"Even though this man was terrible for me, There would be no me without him.

"I hated him for so long but now I’m wise enough to see that he gave me the most special gift."

While crashing with a friend during her teenage years, Julia learned that one of the women in the home worked as a dominatrix.

She told the New Yorker: “She would look at herself in the mirror, with the fish-nets and the PVC and the platforms.

“And, in the back of my mind, I always knew it was an option.”

Julia added that she found a dominatrix job listing on Craigslist when she was in her senior year of high school, which led to the job opportunity.

She also credited her job as a dominatrix for helping her acting career.

Julia previously told Paper Magazine: "I've kind of always put on a show. Or pretended to be normal. Or pretended to be okay when I wasn't.

"My first experience in acting was probably in high school. My after school job was a dominatrix, so you know, it was fantasy role play."

Romance rumors between Julia and Kanye, 44, began when TMZ reported that she was seen on a date with the rapper in Miami, Florida, on January 1, 2022, at Carbone restaurant.

Days after their Miami dinner, Kanye and Julia were seen walking side-by-side in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

The new couple enjoyed a night on Broadway followed by dinner at NYC’s Carbone.

The restaurant also happens to be a favorite of Kanye's estranged wife Kim.

Julia and Kanye recently confirmed their blossoming romance with a sexy photoshoot during their second date in New York City.

Kanye was previously married to Kim, 41, from 2014-2020, while they share four kids together: North, eight, Saint, six, Chicago, three, and Psalm, two.

Unlike Julia, Kim grew up in Hollywood with a very privileged upbringing.

As the middle daughter Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum was able to live a luxurious life alongside her famous family.
