Jeremy Clarkson has been left furious after his plans for a restaurant at his Diddly Squat Farm have been thrown out by the council.

The Top Gear host had previously planned to open a new café at his farm in West Oxfordshire – as seen on Clarkson's Farm, his hit Amazon Prime TV show.

Clarkson had faced a bitter backlash from locals in Oxfordshire after revealing his plans to expand the farm, with over 50 objections being lodged to the council.

The 61-year-old had hoped to build a new 60-seat café and car park with 70 spaces on the site, which is near Chadlington, Oxfordshire.

The TV presenter attended an in-person meeting at West District Council on Monday (January 10) to make his case to the councillors for why his restaurant should be approved – but it was unsuccessful.

Making a persronal plea to the council, Jeremy said: "It is diversification of a farming business. We have already started talking to our neighbouring farmers."

He also told them: "Farmers look after the woodland, they look after the hedges, the streams and the fields – they keep it beautiful.

"Farmers are not going to be able to do that for much longer because of the farmer's state of finances. We have been told as farmers to diversify – that is exactly what this proposal is."

Clarkson added that everyone was "very excited" about the business.
