Priya (played by Fiona Wade) has had a turbulent few months on Emmerdale, having being trapped in the maize maze when it caught fire, sustaining burns in the tragedy and is now battling with an eating disorder relapse. The pain she has endured over the past few weeks has taken its toll on her and in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, she will seek out help. However, as Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) becomes more interested in the villager’s recovery, it could be a secret is about to rise to the surface and make Priya reevaluate her whole life.
It’s fair to say, Priya and Manpreet have never seen eye to eye, ever since the latter started dating and later married Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel).
The General Practitioner’s shopping addiction lead the Sharma patriarch to have mountains of debt and his daughter was outraged when she discovered who was responsible.
With her father now in the process of a divorce, the last person Priya would want to turn to for support would be her stepmother.
However, in the lead up to Christmas, Manpreet will become increasingly concerned about her stepdaughter’s state of mind.
Offering her professional guidance on what the mother-of-one should do, the GP persuades her to go and see a psychologist.
Although a few months ago Priya might not have listened to a word her stepmother said, it seems this will be a breakthrough in their relationship as the mother considers going to therapy.
This might seem like a fleeting moment between the pair but there could be a secret bubbling under the surface which will change both of their lives forever.
Since arriving in the village in 2018, Manpreet could have always known she was Priya’s birth mother, having given her up for adoption years before.
Instead of confronting her daughter straight away and telling her the truth, the GP got to know Rishi a little better.
As the pair got to know each other, she could have learnt the man who adopted her baby girl had never told her she wasn’t really his.
A great story
Rishi could have explained he and Georgia Sharma (Trudie Goodwin) agreed they would raise Priya as their own and she need never know the truth.
This would have left Manpreet devastated as she knew she wouldn’t be able to reveal her true identity in fear she would tear the Sharma family apart.
Therefore, her only option to be a part of her daughter’s life would be to marry her father and hope they formed a bond.
Unfortunately, additions and debt problems forced a bigger wedge between Priya and her possible birth mother, leading to a strained relationship.
Struggling to be the mother she always wanted to be to her child, this is why Manpreet could have leaned towards her former lover, Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin).

Needing to put herself first again, this is why her marriage to Rishi could have broken down and why the pair are now going through a divorce.
However, with the possibility her daughter could need her in her darkest hour, this is why Manpreet could be offering her shoulder to cry on.
Not wanting Priya to suffer, the GP would be intervening in her life to help her get the best support she can for her problems.
Though, Rishi’s estranged wife would always have to accept the fact she would never be able to disclose her true identity.
With it seeming more likely her sister, Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) is going to kill her, will Manpreet take the secret to the grave?
The actress who plays Manpreet, Rebecca, has recently spoken out about being a part of the Christmas episodes and this could be where viewers learn the truth about her identity.
Rebecca explained: “Oh, yes. I can’t wait. I’m not one for wishing away time, but I really can’t wait for those episodes to be shown.
“Because I think it’ll be great. A great story and a great coup for Emmerdale,” the soap star excitedly teased to fans.
During an interview on ITV’s This Morning, the actress who plays Priya, Fiona, also hinted at her character’s future.
She said: “It’s going to be a long journey for Priya, but you will see, she will get there,” with the support of Manpreet maybe.
It could be Priya who could expose Meena as a serial killer if she discovers her true link to Manpreet and realises maybe her auntie killed her birth-mother.
Fiona said in an interview with Express.co.uk and other publications: “If or when that day happens, I think it’s going to be huge.
“In a way, Meena’s been family to Priya with Manpreet being married to her dad and they lived together at one point.
“And I think even though Priya and Meena aren’t best buddies – I think Priya’s quite wary of Meena.
“I think she finds her a little strange – but she would never have imagined this. I think it will be pretty devastating.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
