I can't stand my parents – they're vain and rude

DEAR DEIDRE: I CAN’T stand my parents. Instead of loving me and encouraging me, they compete with me.

The truth is, I don’t like them as people. I think my mum is vain and a snob, and my dad is materialistic and rude.

I’d like to divorce them. But I’m still at school, so I can’t get away.

DEIDRE SAYS: Parents are human beings, which means they’re flawed.

I’m sorry your mum and dad are unkind and uncaring.
