Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One tonight and the competition is getting tougher than ever before. The frontrunners have made themselves known to viewers and it will be a tight race to the finish line. Professional dancer Gary Edwards said Bake Off star John Whaite could be at risk.
John Whaite and Johannes Radebe have made Strictly history by becoming the first same-sex male couple.
They have left the judges in awe with their stripped-back Rumba, their energetic Salsa and their ability to switch roles seamlessly.
The Bake Off star remains one of the favourites to win, but Dancing With The Stars expert Gary Edwards has raised concerns.
For Musicals Week, the pair performed a Viennese Waltz to Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins.
They scored a total of 32, and John recently opened up about the disappointment over his score.
Gary Edwards spotted a number of footwork errors in the dance, which could put them at risk this week.
He told Express.co.uk: “I personally think this was their worst week.
“And I almost think it’s so difficult to get better every week. There’s always a plateau.
“He hasn’t hit his plateau yet, I think this was just a bad week.”
Highlighting some of the errors, he said: “His weight was too far back, it was flat-footed.
“There were foot errors everywhere. Basically, his backside was too low because of where his weight was.
“It was the worst dance of theirs for me, there were too many errors.
“When I found out what they were going to be dancing I was so excited.
“I was like ‘they are going to knock this out of the park’, but it was definitely his worst one.”
However, the pro did suggest John had been in a bad headspace in Musicals Week and he will hopefully come back fighting.
He said: “Next week I reckon John and Johannes are going to come back and literally knock the ball out.
“On social media, people are saying Johannes is overpowering John, but I don’t think he is at all.
“I think he is dancing as good as he can in order to lift John.”
This weekend they will be dancing the Argentine Tango to The 5th by David Garrett.
On Instagram, he shared a photo of himself and Johannes on the first day of rehearsal.
He said: “Day 1 of training for our Argentine Tango has been incredible.
“We’ve had experts @leandropalou1 and @maria_tsiatsiani training us me and @johannesradebe and it has been such an honour to learn from them.
“Can’t wait to get back to it tomorrow.” [Sic] Fans said they were excited to see a same-sex Argentine Tango.
