Inside Paddy McGuinness’s Christmas proposal and his accidental £12k birthday gesture for Christine

Her new autobiography contains many stories of heartbreak and sadness, but as well as delving into the hard times in her life Christine McGuinness opened up on some of the sweet moments she shared with her husband Paddy.

One of which is her engagement, which took place on Christmas Eve 2010.

Looking back on that memory Christine told her readers they were opening presents by the fire when Paddy presented her with a Christmas card addressed, 'To my fiancée'.

“And when I looked up, he was there with a stunning diamond ring – down on one knee,” the 33 year old penned.

“There was no big romantic speech. No, 'You’re my world, you’re my life.'

“But we’re not really a lovey dovey couple. He kept it old school with a simple, 'Will you marry me?'"

She continued: “I really wasn’t expecting it, but of course I was ecstatic and said yes straight away.”

The couple were married six months later at the stunning Thornton Manor in Cheshire.

Although Christine and Paddy never had a honeymoon, they did manage to get away for a couple’s retreat to Dubai while she was seven months pregnant with their twins, Penelope and Leo, now eight.

It was Christine’s birthday during their holiday, so Paddy decided to organise a surprise with the help of their butler Bonks from the Atlantis, The Palm hotel, which accidentally cost him an unexpected £12,000.

He’d sweetly arranged a trip to see the dolphins, something Christine had always wanted to do.

“We got there and the place was deserted. It was just Patrick and I there,” she explained.

Explaining the mix-up Christine, who recently opened up about her autism diagnosis, added: “Obviously there had been some miscommunication or something, because Patrick had asked Bonks to book us to see the dolphins – but Bonks had hired out the whole place for us.

“And we were even more staggered when he handed us the bill – I think it was something like £12,000! We couldn’t afford that at the time.

“It’s safe to say we’ve not been back since,” she joked.
