- Steve Bannon hosted his podcast less than 24 hours after court appearance
- On Tuesday morning, he promised that MAGA was ‘punching back’
- He broadcast his War Room podcast from a room at the Willard Hotel in D.C.
- And he said MAGA world was tired of opponents weaponizing the law
- A day earlier, he appeared at Washington District Court
- He faces two charges of contempt of Congress over its Jan. 6 investigation
A day after appearing in court to face contempt charges, Steve Bannon returned to hosting his podcast on Tuesday morning, launching an angry attack on the Biden administration for weaponizing the law and warning that ‘MAGA punches back.’
Bannon, 67, is the first person to face criminal charges in the congressional probe into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as Trump supporters sought to overturn election results.
He handed himself in the FBI on Monday and appeared in court later in the day.
But on Tuesday morning he was broadcasting to supporters from a room at the Willard Hotel – reportedly the location of a January ‘command center’ where Trump allies gathered to discuss plans to subvert the 2020 election results.
‘They don’t know how to handle when MAGA punches back and MAGA is punching back,’ he told listeners to his War Room podcast.
‘Okay, we’re not going to just sit here and take it any more … the months and months and months and months and months of just the rhetoric and trying to weaponize the law and weaponize DOJ.
‘We’re not going to take it okay. We’re going on offense.’
Bannon and his supporters have used his prosecution as fodder for their media machine, livestreaming the moment on Monday when he arrived to turn himself in to the FBI and using their podcast to suggest they are victims of a witch hunt.

Former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon leaves the federal court in Washington, DC, after a brief hearing on Monday. He did not enter a plea and is due to appear again on Thursday
Steve Bannon spoke to the media after leaving Washington D.C. district court. ‘I’m never gonna back down and they they took on the wrong guy this time,’ he told a throng of journalists
Bannon was indicted on Friday on two federal counts of criminal contempt, one for refusing to appear for a congressional deposition and the other for refusing to provide documents in response to the committee’s subpoena.
He arrived in court flanked by marshals and his supporters said he was handcuffed for part of the day’s proceedings.
He did not enter a plea during the 30-minute hearing on Monday before Washington D.C. Magistrate Judge Robin M. Meriweather.
He was released without bail but is required to check in weekly with officials. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.
On Tuesday morning, he also condemned President Biden’s telephone summit with Chinese premier Xi Jinping, accusing the U.S. leader of being too soft in taking on Beijing.
‘We got a lot to cover,’ he said.
‘China last night … that complete surrender of this illegitimate Biden regime.
‘Stolen elections have consequences or elections have consequence … stolen elections have catastrophic consequences.
‘The catastrophic consequences hit last night.’
He returned to the theme of China later in the podcast, railing against what he said was the corruption of the Biden family and Democrats in general.
‘This is the war that they’ve brought to us!’ he shouted, before running through the names of several of the Democratic members of the House Jan. 6 committee.
‘We’re going to fight it every day and we don’t care what Shifty Schiff [Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA)], we don’t care what the Marxist – from his Marxist traitor father – little Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and the Farrakhan mouthpiece brilliant Bennie Thompson (D-MS). Brilliant in quotes.’
Bannon’s arrival at an FBI field office on Monday morning was livestreamed by the Trump-supporting GETTR social media app, giving Bannon a platform to address supporters
Bannon is viewed as a key witness for the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack as he was in close touch with Trump around that time.
His War Room podcast is an important forum for Trump allies.
He is also believed to have been present at the Willard Hotel a day before the protests, as key Trump supporters plotted how best to prevent Congress certifying the results of the election.
‘All Hell is going to break lose tomorrow,’ he told listeners to the War Room that day.
But his lawyer said he did not believe his client had any foreknowledge of violence.
David Schoen, who represented Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, said he had only met Bannon for the first time on Monday.
‘I met him yesterday for the first time,’ he told CNN.
‘I’m his lawyer defending against a criminal contempt charge.
‘What I will tell you [is] this: Having met him I would not believe for a second that Mr. Bannon in any way intended for there to be, condoned, accepted, ratified or otherwise, any violence on January 6, or any other day.
‘I just don’t believe it.’
A day earlier, Bannon used his court appearance as a chance to push his MAGA message.
The Trump-supporting GETTR social media app livestreamed his arrival at an FBI field office where he gave himself up, and Bannon used his exit from court to hold a press conference.
‘This is going to be the misdemeanour from hell for Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden,’ he told a throng of reporters.
‘Joe Biden ordered Merrick Garland to prosecute me from the White House lawn when he got off Marine One, and we’re going to go on the offence.
‘We’re tired of playing defense.’
