The next instalment of Outlander is finally releasing at the start of 2022. Ahead of the exciting premiere on Starz, series regular Lauren Lyle teased a dark journey for her character Marsali Fraser and husband Fergus’ (played by César Domboy).
Lyle and the rest of the cast made an appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con to give fans a flavour of what’s to come in Outlander season six.
During her chat with the panel, the Marsali Fraser star hinted at a major shift in her character’s dynamic with her husband this season.
Their troubled relationship could also affect her tutelage with time-travelling healer, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).
When asked if Marsali will still be Claire’s apprentice in season six, she confirmed: “To an extent, yes.”
“You kind of catch Marsali in probably, I would say for Marsali and Fergus, the darkest place they’ve been in.”
Fergus becomes the surrogate son of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire after being discovered living on the streets of Paris.
He falls in love with Marsali and accompanies Jamie and Claire to their new home in America, Fraser’s Ridge.
Outlander fans have loved watching their relationship grow so far, but the tumultuous events of the Revolutionary War will start to take their toll on the tight-knit community.
Despite being one of the most enduring couples on the series, their marriage could be in danger with the extra stress coming in season six.
Lyle explained: “Me and César always think we’re like the cool, fun couple who never fight.
“But maybe there’s one or two fights this season, and Marsali is slightly more run off her feet.”
Marsali has become a skilled healer in her own right under Claire’s tutelage, and may find the demands of the war becoming even greater on the Ridge.

As patients start to pile up, her patience could start to wear thin as Fergus’ amputated hand prevents him from joining the battle.
Plus, Marsali was pregnant with her fourth child with Fergus at the end of season five, so there will be a lot of mouths to feed when she returns.
The star continued: “The kids are all on hand, there’s a lot more to do, she’s got a bit more responsibility.
“And so sometimes there’s less time to be the apprentice, and more time to be the mother.”
Marsali may have already given birth at the start of the season, or the early episodes could welcome a new member of the Fraser clan.
Four children will certainly prove a challenge when Marsali’s story continues, especially as the Ridge enters one of the most turbulent periods of American history.
Hopefully the pair are able to stick it out, but their potential split may be just one of the tragedies fans should prepare for when the next season of Outlander arrives.
Outlander season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on Starz.
