Star Jason Momoa has recently revealed his latest project, which has been a long-time dream. After leaving the HBO hit Game of Thrones, fans wondered what the actor would do next. After the release of the new drama See on AppleTV+, Momoa’s new role on HBO Max may surprise audiences.
Momoa first came to the attention of audiences when he portrayed the fearsome Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of HBO smash hit Game of Thrones.
After marrying Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), the two plotted to take over the Seven Kingdoms, however, Khal died before they ever set sail for Westeros.
After departing the series, Momoa took up the mantle of Aquaman, aka Arthur Curry in the popular DC film of the same name.
Now, the actor has announced his latest project, the HBO Max reality competition show The Climb.
As Digital Spy reports, The Climb will follow a group of amateur rock climbers as they travel around the world, taking up challenges along the way.
The show will contain eight episodes, so there will be plenty of gruelling tasks for viewers to enjoy.
Each contestant will compete for the title of World’s Best Amateur Rock Climber but news of a cash prize is currently unknown.
Momoa will be executive producing the series alongside professional rock climber Chris Sharma.
The actor released a statement about the news, as quoted in Deadline [via Digital Spy], he said: “It’s a dream come true to create a show with one of my idols, my good friend and legendary climber Chris Sharma.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with HBO Max and to produce alongside IPC to bring you this incredible show about my favorite sport, rock climbing,” he added.
Momoa also announced the news on his Instagram, saying: “I am so excited to announce this show that @chris_sharma and I Will be doing Mahalo to everyone beyond excited!!! @hbomax Aloha j.” (sic)
Aside from his newest role in the reality show, fans are excited to see the return of apocalyptic sci-fi drama series See on Apple TV+.
The series was recently renewed for a second season, which will air on the streaming network on August 27, 2021.
Ahead of its release, the surprise hit show has already been renewed for a third season as well.
This year, 2021, will see plenty of the Game of Thrones actor on-screen as Momoa is also a part of the impressive ensemble cast for highly-anticipated film Dune, as well as new Netflix film Sweet Girl, which will be released on August 20.
While the release date is currently unknown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the excitement for Dune continues to grow.
Directed by acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, Momoa stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.
Before he begins filming The Climb, the actor is currently shooting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in London.
The sequel film is currently slated for release on December 16, 2022.
All seasons of Game of Thrones are available to watch on Now TV.
