Dramatic moment Royal Ascot jockey Oisin Murphy faceplants turf after being booted off horse – before it ends in a kiss

THIS is the dramatic moment Royal Ascot-winning jockey Oisin Murphy faceplanted the turf after going flying off his horse.

The champion jockey had just celebrated a winner on Alcohol Free in the Coronation Stakes on a rain-soaked fourth day of the royal festival.

But it was after the race that things got ugly, when the Andrew Balding-trained runner reared and kicked off Murphy.

The jockey looked to be in control of his fall – until these amazing photos show the moment he hit the ground.

To make matters worse the horse then got loose and bolted off, before finally being brought under control.

And, in a touching moment, Murphy was one of those there to calm the horse down again, planting a kiss on her nose.

Murphy posted the photos of his fall to Twitter afterwards and captioned them: "No time for tears."

That was probably in reference to what happened in the previous race as well as the fall he took.

Murphy was first past the post on 4-1 shot Dragon Symbol in the 3.40.

But the race was awarded to Frankie Dettori – who finished second on 5-1 Campanelle – after a stewards' enquiry.

It had been determined that Murphy had caused significant interference to Dettori's mount – which ended up being his 76th Royal Ascot winner.

Speaking of his redemptive win on Alcohol Free, Murphy said: "There are far worse things going on in the world and we are in the entertainment business.

"I am just lucky to be riding top-class horses."

Speaking of his controversial win, Dettori said: "It’s never nice to win it in the stewards’ room.

"But it was plain obvious that I was carried off my line for quite a long way and the margin in the end was a head.

"I felt like I was the unlucky loser and the stewards saw it the same way. I’m good friends with Oisin, so I know what he feels like and I’m pleased he bounced back and won a Group One.

"2It’s one of those things. I’m very pleased with the way my filly ran, it’s unfortunate that I got it in the stewards’ room, but it was a good run and well done to the connections."
