'iCarly' Reboot Release Date and Everything We Know So Far

When is the iCarly reboot coming to Paramount+, which of the cast will be back, and will there be new characters? Find out everything we know so far about the iCarly reboot, including the release date and what the show will be about.

Who is returning for the ‘iCarly’ reboot?

Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress, who played Carly, Spencer, and Freddie, are all on board for the iCarly revival. Noticeably absent is Jennette McCurdy, who played Sam Puckett.

McCurdy recently explained that she quit acting and didn’t have fond memories of her Nickelodeon stardom.

During a 2021 episode of her Empty Inside podcast, she explained, “My experience with acting is, I’m so ashamed of the parts that I’ve done in the past … I resent my career in a lot of ways.”

“I did the shows that I was on from, like, 13 to 21, and by 15 I was already embarrassed,” she added. “My friends at 15 weren’t like, ‘Oh cool, you’re on this Nickelodeon show.’ It was embarrassing.”

What is the ‘iCarly’ reboot about?

There haven’t been too many details about what the iCarly reboot will be about, but Kress has given some hints about what fans can expect.

While discussing the reboot on his RadioActive Dads podcast, Kress did stress that the show will have an “adult” shift and no longer be geared toward kids, but will be for the fans who grew up watching the show.

“The whole concept of this show — and that’s why I don’t even know if they necessarily agree with calling it a reboot — because it’s not just doing the same thing over again,” Kress explained.

“The whole point is this is a show that is geared toward the people who watched iCarly who were kids from 2007 to 2012, who are now adults … it’s a show for them,” he continued.

“It’s about us … [fans] want to be able to follow the story,” Kress noted. “We want it to be relatable to what’s happening now to the age range of people who watched it when we were young.”

“All I can say is there are big — at least in its current iteration — there are big life things that have happened and I think that’s vital to show that these people are in a very different place from where they were when they were teenagers,’ Kress said, hinting that “some interesting stuff happens to Freddie in his life.”

He added, “I think people can rest assured that it’s going to be pretty different while still staying true to the core of who it is and the core of where the characters are.”

What is the ‘iCarly’ reboot release date?

An iCarly reboot release date hasn’t been announced yet, but fans can watch the show when it premieres on the Paramount+ streaming platform this year.

A teaser video of Cosgrove, Trainor, and Kress is getting fans excited about the reboot, but the promo didn’t give the official date when iCarly lands on Paramount+.

During an interview on the Bleav in Seahawks podcast on the Bleav Podcast Network, Kress shared when fans may expect to see the new iCarly premiere on Paramount+.

“I believe it’s going to be coming out … If all goes to plan, and everything goes well, it should be late spring, early summer,” Kress said.

Will there be any new characters?

While we know that Cosgrove, Trainor, and Kress will be back for iCarly, it’s also expected that some new characters will be a part of the reboot.

Kress said that they had been auditioning new cast members — though, of course, he had to be careful about what he could reveal.

While speaking on the Bleav in Seahawks podcast he said to expect some new characters. “The casting process is in full swing so there’s going to be chemistry reads in the next couple weeks for the new characters that we’re adding,” he explained.
