This Is What Tiger Woods Did The Day Before His Car Crash
Tiger Woods had undergone successful back surgery in January 2021. According to Golf Digest it was the fifth time he went under the knife to repair his back since 2017, but the golf icon was expected to make a full recovery and hoped to only miss a few months of the PGA Tour, and return in time for the Masters in April.
This was before tragedy struck on Feb. 23, 2021, when Woods was driving alone in his SUV down a steep hill in Los Angeles County when his vehicle struck the median and subsequently flipped several times, as per ESPN. The golfer was conscious when paramedics arrived, and according to CBS Sports, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department representative said that Woods was “lucky to be alive.” As per the outlet, “the area has a high rate of car accidents” due to the steep hill.
Woods sustained serious injuries to his leg and was brought to the hospital to undergo surgery. On the night of his accident, Dr. Anish Mahajan of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center issued a statement on Woods’ condition via the athlete’s official Twitter account. The statement said “Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity.” A rod was inserted “into the tibia” and “injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins.”
Just one day before the horrific crash, Woods had spent time with celebrities who cherished their time with the sports legend.
Several celebrities hung out with Tiger Woods before his accident
The day before his car crash, Tiger Woods was in Los Angeles, Calif., as part of a photo shoot with Golf Digest and GOLFTV. Dwyane Wade was one of the celebrities who hit the links with Woods as part of the event. The 82-time PGA Tour winner imparted knowledge on the Miami Heat legend who documented his time with Woods with a couple posts on Instagram.
“I told y’all that I was about to do something amazing today … had an opportunity to come out here with this guy,” Wade said in an Instagram video he took with Woods behind him. “Tiger, thank you for teaching me something.” The two shared laughs about Wade’s inadequacies on the course, and Wade uploaded the clip just hours before finding out about the crash. Wade also added a three-photo post of Woods giving him instructions on the course.
Comedian David Spade was another celeb who had one-on-one time with Woods that day. “Don’t you hate when you go golf somewhere and they pair you up with someone you don’t know,” the funnyman wrote in the caption of a three-photo Instagram post that featured a selfie of him and Woods.
In an interview, Wade spoke about his time with Woods: “But to be out there with the GOAT in my eyes in that sport … It was a great day.”
