EastEnders fans excited as Sharon and Jean spark friendship after shop theft

EastEnders fans can't get enough of Sharon Beale and Jean Slater's new found friendship as the pals declared they "pulled off a Minute Mart heist".

In tonight's episode ditzy Jean, played by Gillian Wright, wanted to buy a box of chocolates from the local shop.

But after discovering the price she found out she was a little short.

Sharon – soap legend Letitia Dean – offered to help but once moody owner Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) made life difficult, she told her mate to stick the box up her jumper and run.

Tight Suki wouldn't let Jean off 20p – or allow her to pay later.

"Oh, I'm 20 pence short, can I bring it in later?" Jean pleaded with the distracted shopkeeper.

"Sorry, no credit," blunt Suki said, not really paying attention.

Jean then pleaded: "But it's 20 pence? I'm in here all the time."

Browsing Sharon then chirped up: "I'll give it to you when you come in."

But the worker said: "I'm a business lady, not a charity. If you don't mind, I have work to do."

Jean said she would leave it – but Sharon urged her to stick it up her jumper.

The scatterbrain gran did just that and shoved the chocs up her top as they both legged it into the pub.

Later they announced to Phil they had "just pulled off a heist" and said he would be proud.

Fans rushed to Twitter to say how proud they were of the daredevil pair.

One wrote: "Loving the new Jean and Sharon dynamic."

Another said: "Jean and Sharon are the iconic duo I never knew I needed."

A third person posted: "More Jean and Sharon scenes please!"

One viewer hoped this was just the start.

They tweeted: "Sharon and Jean's friendship wasn't a friendship I expected to see but I am so here for it."

EastEnders airs on BBC One Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm.
