Clean your cutlery and the rest of your home with the humble dishwasher tablet

DISHWASHER tablets have been a lockdown lifesaver – and I don’t just mean for cleaning piles of plates.

They are incredibly versatile and can be used to scrub lots of other areas in the house so you spend less on cleaning products.

The cheapest option I’ve seen is 50 tablets for £2.49 at Aldi — call it 5p a tablet. So stock up and follow these tips . . .

HOT IDEA: Oven cleaner can be pricey — but you can make scrubbing your oven door a doddle when you use a dishwasher tablet. Dip a whole one in warm water, then start gently working away at the grease on the glass door. Keep dipping it in the warm water and repeat as necessary. I’ve swapped Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner for this and saved myself £3.50.

SCALE IT BACK: Washing machine in need of a good rinse? Put one of your tablets in the drawer of the machine on an empty wash to reduce limescale build-up. This is a big saving on using Calgon washing machine cleaner — which is £8 at Asda — and it works a treat.

LOO KNEW?: Hate scrubbing your toilet? Pop one dishwasher tablet in your loo and then leave it in overnight and the bowl should be shiny and clean come morning with minimal effort (or cost).

TAN GO: It’s not just household chores that dishwasher tabs can help with – they’re also fab for remedying the beauty woe of “fake tan hands”. Simply dissolve a tablet in a bowl of warm water and then soak your hands in the solution or use it to wipe the patchy area away bit by bit. This works out far cheaper than forking out for a specialised product, such as Bondi Sands self-tan remover, £14.99 at
