Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo: Barcelona star backed to score more goals for club and country than rival Ronaldo

LIONEL MESSI will score more goals for club and country than Cristiano Ronaldo.

That's according to odds supplied by bookmakers Coral, who've priced the Barcelona superstar at 8/11 to surpass his Juventus rival.

Ronaldo, 35, hit the headlines this week when taking Josef Bican's record for the most goals scored for club and country in football history with 760!

450 of those were whilst playing for Real Madrid, with a further 118 for Manchester United, 102 for Portugal, 85 for Juventus and five at his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon.

And there's no sign of him hanging his boots up just yet after describing his future as 'very, very bright'.

He said: "If you feel motivated, it doesn't matter. Cristiano now is good.

"I feel in a great moment, but I don't know tomorrow what's going to happen. I live the present, the moment. Moment is good, I feel happy.

"I feel still good, sharp and in a good moment in my life. I hope to play many, many years more, but you never know. This is football, we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.

"My eyes see the future very, very bright, so I'm happy with that."

And his hope to play for 'many, many years more' might just be influenced by Messi, who is breathing down his neck.

The Argentine superstar, 33, has 719 goals for club and country and is two years younger than Ronaldo – giving him the edge say Coral.

Coral’s John Hill said: "Given they are the two greatest players of their era, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are always being compared with each other.

"Ronaldo currently has the record for the most goals for club and country in the history of football.

"However, our betting suggests when their careers are up, it will be Messi’s total which will be the highest of the two players."
