Earthy Tones Outfit This Striking Patta x New Balance 991 Collaboration

Following up on its sensational 2020, New Balance is ready up its own ante and dish out a smorgasbord of new sneaker projects this year, one being this forthcoming 991 collaboration with Patta. This is a striking follow up to when the Amsterdam-based imprint highlighted Pan-Africanism for its Club C team-up with Reebok towards the final months of last year.

The last occasion that these two brands joined hands was in September 2020 for a project that involved the 920 silhouette. That particular rendition focused on the usage of earthy neutrals and textiles, and judging by the aesthetics of this variant, it appears that same design mentality is being pushed to the frontlines again.

This time however, it’s for the ever-classic 991. A shade somewhat reminiscent of terracotta clay is most pronounced here as it outfits the buttery suede overlays, all of which are offset with laces and underlying mesh materials that are dialed to a grey and jade green mix. Adjacent to all of that, lighter tan overlays also make their presence felt through the overlays attached to the forefoot and heels as well as the lower heel mold. Branded hits across the tongues, heel windows and “N” logos are all strung together with traditional grey and white trim. Moreover, a “Patta” spell out graces the rear end in white embroidery.

Moving downstairs, the ABZORB-cushioned midsole finds itself panted with a two-toned motif as a muted beige wraps the back while white douses the front. To complete its design, the treading is colored up with an all-black finish.

Retail price for the pair hasn’t been confirmed yet, but retailers like Naked have these slated to drop on January 29.
