Rip Wheeler may be safe heading into the fourth season of Yellowstone, but the rest of the Duttons’ lives could be hanging in the balance. As Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western series on Paramount heads into unchartered territory, a new Instagram post featuring Cole Hauser has teased what’s to come.
Breakthrough star of Yellowstone Cole Hauser has confirmed his character Rip Wheeler will continue to evolve in the upcoming instalment.
The reliable ranch hand has remained loyal to landowner John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) over the years, but all that could be about to change.
Season three saw the Duttons, including John’s children Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) targeted by a series of vicious attacks.
As Rip and the bunkhouse gang prepare to take action, the Yellowstone’s campaign of vengeance could leave a trail of blood directly to the ranch’s corrupt underbelly.
John Dutton’s right-hand man is considered one of the most violent members of the pack, but has grown into one of the most layered and misunderstood characters in the series.
Following Hauser’s recent appearance on People’s Sexiest Man Alive list, the Yellowstone star featured in a new clip on the show’s official Instagram page.
Speaking on the series’ stellar cast, he said: “I just knew that this was going to be special.
“Then when Kevin came on, and Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley and Luke Grimes – the cast started to fall together beautifully.”
He then touched on Rip’s development over the course of three seasons, name-dropping showrunner Taylor Sheridan for his superb work penning each episode since the premiere.
Hauser continued: “I’ve had the opportunity with Rip to be able to see him grow. And talk to Taylor about the growth of the character over the years.”
Finally, he teased: “In season 4 coming up it’s more of that, more of seeing Rip evolve.”
The third season contained the biggest changes for Rip so far, as his on and off relationship with Beth was finally resolved.

After their romantic fling as teenagers, the pair have since endured awkward stares and the occasional sexual encounter when they reached adulthood.
However, the couple finally decided to put their dysfunctional past behind them, with Beth surprising Rip by proposing marriage midway through season three.
Unfortunately, their plans were thrown into disarray when Beth was delivered an explosive package, destroying her office and rendering her at the very least seriously injured.
Beth’s fate is still unknown as the wait for season four continues, so Rip could be about to embark on a dangerous mission to sniff out the culprit who attacked his future wife.

Now production has resumed in Montana, Hauser has also opened up about the physical challenges of returning to the character of Rip.
The star admitted: “Horseback riding at a very high level is a hell of a workout for the core, back and legs, you name it. Riding and roping and cutting, all the different disciplines we do on the show, it’ll keep you in shape.
“That first initial, when you come back to work on the show, you’re sore for a week and then you kind of power through.”
Sheridan’s fourth season of the acclaimed modern Western should be eying Yellowstone’s traditional June release window, giving Cole Hauser plenty of time to rein in his performance.
Yellowstone will return with season 4 in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
