My daughter needs surgery and Covid complications are making life so tough

DEAR DEIDRE: WE have a little girl of 18 months who needs corrective surgery but the operation has been postponed because of Covid. I’m worrying non-stop.

Now my husband has been laid off and I’ve had to go back to work so we can afford to pay the mortgage. We are both 30.

I have a public- facing job which means I’ll have to move out of our home before my daughter’s operation, whenever it takes place, because she will need to isolate, and I’ll have to stay away for at least a fortnight after she gets home.

My husband is a brilliant dad but it breaks my heart to think of her going through this without me.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m so sorry. I understand how agonising this feels.

Try explaining the situation to your employer in case you could be given paid leave or take holiday for the month when she has her operation.

If that’s impossible, try to focus on the positives – your daughter is going to have the surgery she needs, which wouldn’t happen everywhere in the world, and you have a lovely husband who will be there to care for her.
