Group C took to the stage for the first time on The Masked Singer tonight after the popular celebrity talent show took a break to make way for the World Series last week. Several fans who tuned into Fox had cause to celebrate when provocative TV and radio host Wendy Williams was sent home.

Viewers were introduced to a fresh batch of masked celebrities this week on The Masked Singer’s Group C Premiere.

This time it was the turn of the Squiggly Monster, Broccoli, Mushroom, Jellyfish and Lips to impress the judges and avoid being kicked out of the competition.

Known for its outlandish costumes, Lips has to be among the most surreal outfits the series has seen so far, and fans were keen to discover who was beneath the glossy kisser.

Unfortunately for the celebrity contender, their performance of Native New Yorker by Odyssey failed to impress and they joined Masked Singer host Nick Cannon for their unmasking.

Before the judge’s guesses came in, many viewers correctly identified the voice of the Lips as TV and radio host, Wendy Williams.

One fan tweeted at the beginning of the episode: “So if you can’t tell this is @WendyWilliams on #TheMaskedSinger you’re blind and dumb!”

Reactions quickly came flooding in when it was revealed Williams was indeed under the bright red pair of lips.

Best known for hosting her own talk show, The Wendy Williams show, the controversial TV star began her career as a radio DJ in New York.

A large portion of the audience was happy to see her go after her performance didn’t live up to the show’s usual high standards.

One fan quipped: “Wendy Williams can talk, but singing….oooh girl” and another added: “Somebody come get Wendy Williams. She talking more than singing. These “Lips” can go.”

Several viewers also noted the Lips performed sitting down, remembering Williams’ fainting incident back in 2017 following her battle with Graves’ Disease.

The TV host now avoids wearing heels to lessen the chances of the immune disorder ruining her balance.

Combined with her recognisable voice, it became clear to many tuning in who was behind the Lips’ mask.

However, while some were excited to see Williams unmasked, her appearance drew some of the most heated comments The Masked Singer has seen so far.

Wendy Williams has been criticised for several controversial statements in the past, including a recent joke about the death of Amie Hardwick, the ex-fiancée of Price Is Right Host Drew Carey.

This year, Williams also apologised for mocking Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix’s facial scar, as well as for making comments on her show some considered homophobic and transphobic.

At the start of the episode, one viewer remarked: “She’s a terrible person. All she does is talk c**p about people on her show. Hope she’s out first.”

While another fan joked: “The judges were sooo scared of Wendy saying something about them.”

This week’s unmasking was definitely season four’s most divisive reveal yet, so hopefully the next episode will get The Masked Singer back into fans’ good books.

The Masked Singer continues Wednesdays on Fox.
