Shaughna Phillips has heartbreakingly revealed she blocked the word "legs" from her social media before entering Love Island over fears of being trolled.

The 26 year old shot to fame on the hit ITV2 show earlier this year, but was worried her legs would draw negative attention after she was left self-conscious about them.

Since leaving the villa, Shaughna has been diagnosed with lipodema — a build up of fat cells in the legs.

Last month, the reality star confirmed she had undergone liposuction in the hope of reducing the size of legs after abhorrent trolling.

She has now opened up on her experience, saying: "Before I even went into Love Island you can block words that you don't want to see and the first word I blocked was 'legs'.

"I would always feel like my thighs and my calves there wasn't much difference in size. I never really had a defined ankle. For years I've had constant numbness in my legs," she told BBC Newsbeat.

Referring to her procedure, Shaughna continued: "I saw something the other day that said 'another girl takes the easy way out' and I replied to this person saying I was in no way lazy for getting my calves done.

"I think it was Lipoedema UK who put a before and after picture up. When I weighed 14 stone, I'd lost four stone and then posted a picture of before and after and I looked no different.

"So if that's lazy — losing four stone, going to the gym and eating healthy then you're the silly one. I definitely want to use my platform as much as I can to raise awareness and help women and girls."

Shaughna recently opened up to OK! online about her surgery, telling us: "I think I've always had an insecurity about my legs, that was the one thing that I said to the Love Island therapist – before you go in there, they ask you loads of questions, how you deal with trolls.

"Anything that a troll has to say to me I probably think about it already. So, to be honest, the trolling comments about my legs don't necessarily affect me, it's something that happened a long time before Love Island, I've always felt conscious about them."

Shaughna then revealed she remembers a cruel ex-boyfriend making a remark about her legs, despite her spending hours in the gym to tackle her insecurities.

She told us: "I specifically remember this time that I'd just weighed myself in the gym, I was nine stone six pounds and I messaged my then-boyfriend – who was very horrible.

"I messaged him saying: 'Oh my God I just weighed myself I'm nine stone six' and his reply was: 'Oh that's good now you can sort your legs out and then you'll be nice'.

"And I remember thinking: 'I physically can't get any skinner than what I am and my legs are still not good enough' and I just did not know what to do. I was killing myself in the gym and I was still getting those kinds of comments!"
