Starz drama Power Book II: Ghost picked up the action from the end of the popular gangster show. The new series saw Tasha St Patrick (played by Naturi Naughton) rotting in prison and awaiting trial for the murder of her husband James “Ghost” St Patrick (Omari Hardwick). For now, it looks like Tasha is going to be spending a lot of time on the inside – but how will it change her?
How will prison change Tasha St Patrick?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Power Book II: Ghost
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, actress Naughton opened up about how her onscreen alter-ego had been changed by incarceration.
She also admitted Tasha had lost some of herself after the death of her husband Ghost, perhaps because she defined herself as the wife of a drug dealer.
The actress said: “You will see some of her life in prison.
“And I don’t want to say too much about like what, but I’ll just say you will get to see how she navigates her prison like.
“We will get see some new alliances. I’ll say this, she has to find out who she can use and who she can manipulate and who she can befriend.”
Naughton added: “So I think that’s going to be quite interesting to see this.”
As fans saw in episode two, Tasha was temporarily restored to her former glory when she showed up to Ghost’s funeral in an eye-catching dress.
The brief moment of defiance suggested Tasha could be biding her time but there is a fear she won’t be able to escape the lethal injection.
Naughton also said Book II would have “different touches” to the original Power series, most notably with the prison storyline.
The star added Tasha would be in a “very different” place compared to the days of her Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton handbags and designer garb which made up her wardrobe.
Naturi admitted it “sucked” Tasha was in some ways a shadow of her former self but teased how all the characters were put in “whole, entirely new circumstances”.
The star suggested Tasha would have to forge a new identity after her old life had been taken from her.
Tasha relied so heavily on Ghost before and despite making exit plans from her marriage, she was always expecting to have some support from him.
Now she’s been cut out of his will, Tasha literally has nothing left and will have to start again and depend upon her son Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.).
There could also be a “stripping back” of the former gangster’s wife as she reinvents herself not only physically with her clothes and make-up but also on an emotional level.
From her words, it looks like Tasha is going to be stuck on the inside for the foreseeable future.
This week’s episode of Ghost saw Tasha being put to the test in a mock trial by her attorney Davis Maclean (Cliff “Method Man” Smith”) and it initially looked like she was going to win the case.
Sadly, Davis then brought into the big guns to really challenge Tasha’s mettle with Tameika Robinson (Quincy Tyler Bernstine) acting as the prosecutor, who proceeded to cross-examine her testimony.
Tameika essentially ripped Tasha apart on the stand with the fake jury all finding her guilty.
Nonetheless, Davis decided to hire Tameika to help represent Tasha, but she turned him down.
Davis is going ahead with representing Tasha, but it looks like it won’t be an easy road as Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) is determined to take them all down.
The trial storyline is going to be building up slowly alongside Tasha’s time in the slammer.
