Mum uses DIY painting hack to create Beetlejuice-themed room for daughter

A mum with a keen eye for design has given her daughter’s bedroom a stunning makeover inspired by the film “Beetlejuice”.

Nina Feeney, 41, a beautician, posted about the gorgeous DIY re-design in a popular Facebook group.

She also posts her projects on her Instagram page, @West_HighlandInteriors.

Now, if you’re a parent you’ll know that kids sometimes want to decorate their rooms in colours we don’t approve of.

Nina’s daughter, Katerina, eight, loves the colour black – but such dark walls don’t always look stylish in your average home.

So, using some creativity, lots of frog tape, and hard work Nina gave her little girl the room of her dreams without compromising on taste.

Posting online, Nina said: “She absolutely loves black, so I came up with a Beetlejuice room for her!

“She loves it.

“I have a passion when it comes to interior design to revamp instead before spending.”

With up cycling in mind, Nina used gold paint to update Katerina’s existing cream furniture.

She also re-upholstered the chair, chaise and bed using gorgeous fabrics.

Nina made a new headboard for the bed and painted the lamps and TV frame.

The mum told Daily Star Online: “It took around one week to complete as I hand painted all the stripes and reupholstered the old bed frame, I made the headboard out of an old mirror plus got fabric on sale, they were the end of rolls, to made all cushions bedding ect.

“I used artificial flowers and old photo frame, which I cut, to make the TV frame and used another old picture frame for the light switch surround.”

But, the standout feature in this cool room is the striped wall.

To create the fun design, Nina made sure the wall was clean and then measured and stuck down frog tape to create guidelines for the paint.

Then, Nina, her husband and Katerina hand painted the black stripes onto the walls.

Add a couple of layers for a strong colour and when dry just peel away the tape!

So simple, but so effective.

You can pick up Frog tape for around £5 from Screwfix.

Dulux black silk emulsion costs just £15 from Wilko.

For the gold accents, Nina used Hycote Arizona Gold spray paint which costs £8.99 on Amazon.

Fabric prices will depend on what you can find locally.

Interiors fans on the group “Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It” were utterly blown away by the makeover.

Over 3,300 people liked Nina’s post and nearly 500 commented on it.

One person commented: “Wow, that is the coolest room for a little girl.”

“Absolutely beautiful bedroom – love everything, well done,” wrote another.

A third added: “That’s stunning.

“So elegant and classy – good job.”

“What a beautiful room for a beautiful little girl by a beautiful and talented mummy,” gushed another.

Hundreds of others said the room looked “amazing”, “beautiful” and “fabulous”.

We’d be proud to call such a pretty room our own.

Top job, Nina!
