Britain’s Got Talent returned with the semi-finals and tonight’s show saw Ashley Banjo sitting in for Simon Cowell. During one act, the Diversity founder was so astounded by what happened, he got up out of his chair and stormed around the studio in utter disbelief.
James and Dylan Piper wowed the judges earlier this year with their father-son magic act.
This evening’s audition had another special touch, focusing on the bond they share and they decided to tug on Ashley’s heartstrings and centre their performance around him becoming a first time parent a few months ago.
Those watching at home saw hundreds of photographs fall from the ceiling and Ashley was invited up onto the stage to choose six, which were face down.
James started off by saying Dylan was not with him in the studio, and the judges saw the teenager flash up on screen, in a live video call.
It was up to him to decipher what images Ashley had chosen and explain their details.
“This is a very special person, the strongest lady I know,” Dylan began. “This is a picture of my great-gran and it’s the one where she’s showing her muscles.”
James flipped over the first image and it as indeed what Dylan had described.
Dylan did this for four more photographs – guessing them all correctly.
The final image was in fact of Ashley with his own son: “I think it’s a father holding his son,” Dylan said.
“But it’s not me and my dad, Ashley this is a picture of you holding your little boy.”
The camera panned to Ashley who looked extremely confused, and his co-judge, Alesha Dixon could be heard saying: “What?”
James then asked Ashley what his son’s name was, and how he spelt it: “Micah.”
The magician then rearranged the photographs to spell out his name.
Understandably, the dancer was utterly shocked, but the surprises didn’t stop there.

James then walked over to the massive easel which had been situated in the middle of the stage and pulled off the black cloth.
It was a larger image of Ashley and his child, but while James initially held it, he soon switched – by magic – with Dylan.
And James was standing behind the judges instead.
“No!” Ashley shouted. “No way!”
When it was time to get the judges thoughts, Ant said their performance was “absolutely spellbinding”.
“I didn’t expect that,” the dancer responded.
“You were out of your chair at the end!” Ant added.
“I could’ve been out of my chair multiple times, that is what coming to this competition to win looks like to me,” Ashley replied.
Britain’s Got Talent returns next Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
