EastEnders' Adam Woodyatt is set for Strictly Come Dancing as he's 'written out of the soap', claim fans

EASTENDERS' Adam Woodyatt is tipped for this year's Strictly Come Dancing after it was revealed he's taking an extended break from the BBC One soap.

The 52-year-old actor has played Ian Beale for 35 years, and last night it was reported that he will be off-screen for 10 weeks.

Fans have gone into overdrive as they have speculated why the star is taking a temporary break from Walford – and some believe he is swapping Albert Square for the Strictly ballroom.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Adam Woodyatt is taking a break from EastEnders for about 10 weeks? Could he be doing Strictly?"

Another asked: "Is Adam Woodyatt doing #Strictly?"

Several of Adam's EastEnders' co-stars have appeared on the BBC One dance show over the years, including Kellie Bright, Tameka Empson, and Jake Wood.

While they have continued filming for the soap while on Strictly, things may be different this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Due to social distancing measures, it is thought that the celebrity contestants will be isolating with the professional dancers and Strictly crew during their time on the show to minimise the risk of spreading the deadly virus.

This means that it is unlikely Adam – who appeared in the very first episode of EastEnders as a teen – will be able to film for both shows at the same time.

The Sun Online have contacted reps for Adam and Strictly for comment.

A source previously said of the actor's temporary departure: "Writers are staying tight-lipped about what happens, so it’s not known yet what the future will hold for the character.

"There are no guarantees and anything can happen in Albert Square."

"It will be strange for viewers not to have Ian on screen for such a long time."

They added to the Daily Star: "But it will be nice for Adam to have some time out after working on the show for so long."

It's thought the break has been plotted and planned in advance as part of an upcoming storyline.

The BBC declined to comment when contacted by The Sun Online.

Earlier this month, Adam revealed he has slimmed down dramatically during lockdown.

This Morning fans were left stunned when the show aired a clip of Secrets From The Square showing the Ian Beale actor's remarkable weight loss.
