KELSEA Ballerini slammed fellow country singer Chase Rice for putting on a concert for thousands of fans amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 26-year-old called him “selfish” for seemingly not caring about people’s health and well-being.
A video of Chase, 34, performing to a “crowd of unmasked fans” in Tennessee went viral on Sunday, and Kelsea was not happy when news of it hit her social media timeline.
The Hold in the Bottle singer tweeted: “Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people’s health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect, and play a NORMAL country concert right now.
She then made sure to tag Chase’s Twitter handle so that he would see her outrage.
Kelsea continued: “@ChaseRiceMusic, We all want (and need) to tour. We just care about our fans and their families enough to wait.”
The singer's referring to the fact that a lot of artists who had tours set for this year have already made the choice to postpone until 2021 and beyond, and that many are choosing to put on online concerts in the meantime.
Her response to the video and to Chase’s decision to put on a large concert ended up going even more viral than the original post.
Many agreed with the singer-songwriter, including another country-pop artist, Cassadee Pope.
The 30-year-old couldn’t believe what she was seeing in the clip and told Kelsea as such.
She replied to her friend’s tweet: “Wait. Is this real?
“I’m so confused as to how this many people got approved by a venue to gather during a pandemic. Wtf?”
Chase had posted footage from the concert to his Instagram Stories, writing with it, “We back,” along with a sunglasses-wearing smiley face emoji.
By Monday, the video had expired on his page, but it had already been captured and shared around social media, sparking outrage from many, like Kelsea.
He’d also left up a post on his page of him rehearsing for his “first show back in four months,” and fans have been shaming him in the comments for going back to live shows while the pandemic continues.
Chase has yet to respond to all of the fans and fellow musicians slamming him.
