In an interview with Joe Rogan, Kevin Hart has opened up about the injuries he suffered in a horrific car crash last year, and his road to recovery since then. In September 2019, Hart was a passenger in one of his own classic cars when it veered off the road, crashing into a ditch.
In Rogan’s podcast, Hart reveals that he suffered a fractured spine from his T10 to his L1 vertebra, resulting in an operation to fuse his spine. While in the hospital he says it was so bad he could barely do anything for himself, but that he had a tendency to lie about how he was actually feeling.
“I lied in the hospital because I didn’t want them to know that I was having pain,” he said in the interview. “Because I thought that they were gonna stop me from letting me continue to try my walks.”
Hart pushed himself hard towards recovery, initially pretending to walk using a walker while mostly using his upper body to support himself. After 10 days in the hospital he moved to a rehabilitation facility where he continued to recover, though he admitted he was still pushing himself harder than he should have.
Now he says he’s around “95%” recovered, crediting his quick recovery to his workout routine and high level of physical fitness at the time of the accident. You can watch the whole interview above, with discussion of the crash starting around 36 minutes in.
Hart’s most recent movie Jumanji: The Next Level premiered in December last year, while he’s currently signed on for another board-game-related film, an upcoming live-action version of Monopoly.
