It’s no secret that hand wash isn’t the most glamorous beauty purchase you’ll make in your life, but given the current situation, more of us are looking to upgrade our washing regime (and bathroom shelves) by investing in a hand wash that not only looks and smells good but also leaves our palms feeling silky smooth.
Our OK! Beauty team tried five new launches which promise to be everything your hands need.
Here’s what they thought…
The Body Shop Spa of the World Balkan Juniper Hand Wash, buy it here for £7
Lush launch money-saving ‘letterbox’ hand care kits – so you’ll get them even if you’re out
Beauty writer Zoe says: "I put this in the bathroom at my family home and even my younger brother (who has questionably few daily hand washes) said he’d be washing more just to use this citrus and juniper scented soap. It has a thick consistency but is quick to rinse and my hands feel soft after drying."
Jo Loves Eucalyptus & Cedar Woods A Hand Wash, buy it here for £38
Six best body creams to give you softer and smoother skin for summer
Beauty ed Laura says: "This scent is gorgeous – fresh yet with warm, creamy undertones. It lathers up gently, although a hand cream wouldn’t go amiss afterwards. Yes, it’s a real extravagance but in these tough times I’m all in favour of treating yourself to something you’ll use regularly."
Baylis & Harding Goodness Lemongrass & Ginger Hand Wash, buy it here for £4
Zoe says: "The smell is very spa-like and uplifting, and I could smell the scent on my hands for a while after washing. The bottle is a decent size so it lasts a while, too. The formula uses 98 per cent naturally-derived ingredients, and the bottle is also fully recyclable. Feels lovely, smells nice AND does good!"
Lavera Organic Gentle Care Mild Hand Wash, buy it here for £4.95
Beauty director Lynne says: "One of three new hand washes from Lavera. There’s a lovely zingy lime version and juicy berry as well, but this is my pick because it did seem genuinely kinder on skin. My husband’s been suffering with cracked hands from all the endless lathering, and they’ve been less dry since switching to this."
Evolve Organic Beauty African Orange Aromatic Wash, buy it here for £14
Lynne says: "It’s a bit splurge-y but the bottle is a whopping 500ml so not really a case of money down the drain. The scent is absolutely gorgeous and really lingered on my hands afterwards, which made me feel like I had luxury (literally) at my fingertips. It smells so good I’m going to get the matching body cream as well."
Stop hands from drying out
*"Cuticles are the first to split when constantly washing, so keep any loose skin trimmed back, and use a good cuticle oil twice a day," says Karen J Gerrard, skin expert and founder of SEAMS Beauty. Try SEAMS Silk Touch Hand & Nail Oil, £22 here.
*"Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated – if you pinch the skin on the top of your hand and it doesn’t instantly bounce back you may be dehydrated," Karen says.
*"Moisturise your hands regularly at least 3–4 times a day with a good hand cream to keep skin from getting dry and cracked," Karen says.
